SK Voice Actor Hospitalized After Stroke

From Anime News Network:

yohmeiFuji TV has announced on Saturday that 74-year-old voice actor Takeshi Aono remains in a hospital due to a stroke he suffered after surgery for aortic aneurysm. As a result, 55-year-old Bin Shimada will substitute for Aono as Tomozou Sakura – the grandfather of the title character in the Chibi Maruko-chan television anime series – starting with the episode that airs on Sunday.

According to Fuji TV, Aono was admitted to a hospital for surgery at the end of May, and was diagnosed with the cerebral infarction after the operation. While Aono’s current condition is improving, the prospects for his return to work are uncertain.

He voiced Yohmei Asakura, Yoh’s grandfather on the Shaman King Anime. Shaman King Nation wishes for him to have a speedy recovery. You can read more of the story at ANN.

Shaman King manga preview in Sept Shonen Jump

sj-sk-vol30-previewIn the August issue of Shonen Jump USA, it was announced in the next issue preview that Shaman King will return for a single “Showcase chapter.” This will be the first time  Hiroyuki Takei has had two of his manga series (Ultimo and Shaman King) printed in the same magazine outside of Japan (In Japan, this only happened twice, with Exotica and Mappa Douji). This is not the first time one author has had two series in a single Shonen Jump issue. When Shonen Jump was initially launching in the USA, both Dragonball and Sandland were being printed at the same time, both by Akira Toriyama.

Which Shaman King chapter will be included in this one issue preview was not mentioned. Shaman King volume 30 will be released in the US on September 7th, which this chapter is intended to promote. The preview also comments about traveling to the continent of Mu, where the final chapters take place. As a result, the most likely chapter to be previewed is chapter 258, the first chapter in the volume. In this chapter Yoh and the gang talk with Hao about the future of the Shaman Fight.

The Ultimo chapter in the September issue of SJ will be Chapter 15.

Additionally, Ultimo has been licensed in France by KAZE under their “Shonen Up” line of manga. It will be released in France on October 9th, 2010.

Jumbor Security Edition Announced for Japan

In the latest issue of Ultra Jump, several pieces of Jumbor news was announced in the preview for the August issue.

In the August issue of Ultra Jump, on sale on July 17th, 2010, the official start of the 「ユンボル-JUMBOR-」 series will begin. Previously there were two oneshot chapters released in Ultra Jump, but this will be the true start to the series. Hiroyuki Takei (武井宏之) will still be listed as the series creator, but returning from the second oneshot will be Hiromasa Mikami (御上裕真) as the writer. The chapter will be 63 pages long and include at least one color page. Also, Jumbor will be on the cover of Ultra Jump. Ironically, this would make Jumbor have more cover appearances in Ultra Jump than Ultimo for JumpSQ.

The other major announcement in the preview was the release of the upcoming “Jumbor Security Edition” ([ユンボル 安全版])  manga volumes. The first volume (of 2?) will be released on August 4th, 2010 in Japan. These will be a reprint of the original Jyuki Ningen Jumbor manga series with new extras (most likely the two Jumbor oneshots) and include a brand new cover art by Tenjin Hidetaka (天神英貴). He is most famous for working on artwork for the Macross series. You can see some of his artwork here. The term “Security Edition” is a pun based off of the words “kanzenban” or “Perfect Edition” which was used in the recently reprinted Shaman King Kang Zeng Bang.
