New Ultimo Volume 2 release date for USA, hints for volume 3

With the English release of Ultimo volume 1 by Viz last month, the preview for the next volume was listed to be released in August 2010. This date is incorrect. The official release date will be now one month EARLIER, July 6th, 2010. This is the same release date as Shaman King volume 29. Once the cover art has been released, a new news post will be posted. Please bookmark our site and check back often! Currently there is no release date set for Ultimo volume 2 in the UK, but it will most likely be in August 2010.

Summary:

Additionally, in the summery, it lists Ultimo being released 3 times a year. Seeing as there is a 5 month time frame between volumes 1 and 2, it is very likely that Ultimo volume 3 will be released in December 2010 or earlier. Ultimo volume 3 was released just 2 months after volume 2 in Japan.

Like many manga, the creator has included levity at peculiar times, by American standards. The title character Ultimo, while repeatedly described as a boy, is dressed in a very feminine tank top outfit throughout the story. These are very minor issues in an interesting story.

Despite these stylistic issues, the story was compelling enough that I can definitely recommend Ultimo to anyone who enjoys Shonen Jump manga or who likes shonen manga in general. It’s more than just the sum of its parts. Ultimo provides a solid reading experience with characters you want to know more about, in a situation you want to see resolved well.

Given Ultimo’s pedigree, it should have been one of 2010’s must-read manga — a tangy, peanut-butter-and-wasabi pairing of superhero titan Stan Lee and cutting-edge manga-ka Hiroyuki Takei. Instead, Ultimo turned out to be more of a PB&J affair, competently executed but utterly forgettable. Takei, who’s credited with the script, relates the story at a brisk but comprehensible clip, introducing a large cast of characters that includes Yamato and friends in both their present-day and feudal incarnations.

Ultimo volume 1 was released February 2nd, 2010. It is currently being published in Shonen Jump by Viz in the USA.

New Jumbor Oneshot and Puzzle give-away [Updated]

This news post was updated on Feb 23rd, 2010, to correct errors about how the puzzle is distributed.

On Feburary 19th in Japan, the Ultra Jump magazine was released featuring Hiroyuki Takei’s latest series, “ユンボル-ＪＵＭＢＯＲ-”. It is also known as “ユンボル‐JUMBOR‐荒野の床暖房” or literally translated to “Jumbor - Heated Floor in the Wilderness.” “荒野” can mean “wilderness” or “wasteland”, and “床暖房” translates to yukadanbō , or “floor heater.”

This second oneshot is a continuation of his other Jumbor oneshot, which was a sequel to “Jyuki Ningen Jumbor” that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump. Baru is featured on the cover, and the entire oneshot is 27 pages long. New chapters will begin in the July issue of Ultra Jump. The first Jumbor oneshot lists Hiroyuki Takei as the artist and Yuma Miue as the writer. However in this second oneshot, Hiroyuki Takei is listed as the creator, and Hiromasa Mikami is also credited in it’s creation.

In order to promote the series, a free small puzzle was included in all of the issues of Ultra Jump this month. There was also an envelope, which you could use to mail the puzzle to one of your friends. On the back of the puzzle is a small area where you can write a personalized message. The cover of the envelope features a line-art design of the cover of Ultra Jump.

Ultimo vol 3 planned for Japan, vol 2 annouced for USA

Amazon has listed “機巧童子ULTIMO 3” (Karakuridouji Ultimo vol 3) ready for pre-order. The price is 500yen, and is set to be released on March 4th, 2010. This is only two months after volume 2 has been released. The ISBN-10 is 4088700171 and ISBN-13 is 978-4088700175.

Ultimo is currently being published in JumpSQ in Japan with a new chapter released every month. On March 4th, a new issue of JumpSQ will also be released. This will contain the 14th chapter in the series, with 45 pages and a color page, totaling 46 pages.

Ultimo volume 2 has also been annouced for release in August in English by Viz. This annoucement came in the back of volume 1 of the manga on February 2nd, 2010. There has been no annouced plans for volume 3 in the United States, and it is unlikely that volume 3 will follow as shortly behind as the Japanese releases.

Ultimo is being released monthly in Shonen Jump USA by Viz.

Status of the Site

Hello!

If you are still coming to this website, then you’ll be in for a treat! There is going to be alot more updates now. We are done with our break, and there is news coming from all over now. Ultimo is going strong in USA and in Japan, with new chapters every month. Shaman King is selling very well in the USA, with a new volume every other month. And in Japan, Takei is restarting is “Jyuki Ningen Jumbor” manga! Back in November, he released a oneshot in Ultra Jump called “Jumbor”, the sequel to “Jyuki Ningen Jumbor.” Now he will have a complete manga series starting next month in Ultra Jump by the same title.

So, expect weekly updates in the near future, or if something happens in between, we will cover it! No more delays, only the fastest news for Shaman King, Jumbor, Ultimo, or anything Takei!

Ultimo Vol 1 in USA

Viz has annouced today at it’s panel at the New York Anime Fest 2009 the release date for Ultimo volume 1 of the manga in English. The date is set for Feb. 2010. There will also be a promotional campaign for it with (most likely) free posters/postcards in upcoming issues of Shonen Jump. No price was marked for this release. It will most likely be priced at the new Shonen Jump line price point of $9.99. Takei and Lee at SDCC on 7/24

In the July 11th Shonen Jump newsletter, Viz has announced that both Stan Lee and Hiroyuki Takei will be at their panel at the San Diego Comic Con, in San Diego, CA, USA. The panel will take place in Room 10 at 10:30am until 11:30am. Takei’s appearance is a last minute addition that had not been announced, or promoted prior. At Anime Expo, a few weeks ago, Viz hinted at that Ultimo will have a strong presence at their panel at SDCC. This panel will cover Viz’s entire Shonen Jump line, not just Ultimo. In the panel description, at least Stan Lee will give a short comment about working on Ultimo. There are currently no scheduled autograph sessions, or Q&A sessions with Hiroyuki Takei and Stan Lee.

However not confirmed, it’s likely that Viz will have their own interview with Hiroyuki Takei and Stan Lee, and will release this interview in Shonen Jump in a few months. Viz will most likely license “Heroman,” another manga Stan Lee is working with that will start up in Japan next month. Another possible announcement is that the Ultimo anime might start production soon, however, this is just a guess. It is unlikely that any Shaman King news will be announced at this time. Whatever does happen at this panel, though I won’t be there, I will do my best to report on everything that will be said.

Last year, at the New York Comic Con, Stan Lee made a surprise visit to help promote the soon to be released Ultimo manga. Viz is also having a contest starting on July 15th, where you can send in your questions to be answered by Hiroyuki Takei and Stan Lee.
