New Series “Jumbor” Starts in Ultra Jump

On July 17th in Japan, the latest issue of Ultra Jump was released in Japan. With this month’s release begins the start of Hiroyuki Takei’s new series, “Jumbor” ( ユンボル -JUMBOR- ). This series is an continueation of his original series “Jyuki Ningen Jumbor” ( 重機人間ユンボル ) which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2007. This new adventure is more targeted to an older audience, and will follow Baru’s journey. The first chapter title is called “Scrap and Build.” The first chapter is 63 pages long and contains 3 color pages. The Ultra Jump August issue cover can be found to the left, and the first 3 pages of the manga can be found below.

Included with this issue of Ultra Jump is also 2 volume cover jackets for the upcoming reprint release of the original Jumbor series. The two volume set will include all 10 original chapters, the two oneshots for “Jumbor” from UJ and some new extras. The new covers are drawn by  Tenjin Hidetaka in the style of model kits found in Japan. The two reprint volumes (know as Angzengbang, or ユンボル 安全版 ) will be released on August 4th with Ultimo volume 4. Hiroyuki Takei continues to use extra letter “g” in his spelling for the reprint volume, which should be spelt “Anzenban”. This trend started with the Shaman King reprint volumes of “Kang Zeng Bang.”

Additionally, some retailers in Japan, with the release of this new Ultra Jump issue have another promotional campaign. This campaign is giving out free double-sided posters with the purchase of an Ultra Jump issue. A sample of these image can be found below. The poster is about 18 inches tall. This poster can be found at the following retailers:

  • Yurindo (有隣堂)
  • Junkudo (ジュンク堂)
  • Kinokuniya (紀伊国屋)
  • Tsutaya

In another promotional campaign, the store Toranoana (とらのあな) is giving out special Jumbor cards, which feature the artwork that is on the cover of the Ultra Jump issue. A sample of this card can also be found below.

Along with these promotions the retail covers for the Jumbor reprint volumes were also released, both which feature Baru on them. These covers can be placed next to each other for an overlapping image. They are positioned so either order would show a complete image. These covers are also posted below.

When making the Shaman King anime, they needed some drawings to know what each character is suppose to look like. These are not reprints, these were used in the actual production. You get 175 sheets, but you won’t know what they are until you get them. These appear to be from the 2nd season of the anime (but may have season 1 cels as well).

Reprint Volumes 7 & 8

On June 4th, the next wave of reprint volumes will be released in Japan. Volumes 7 and 8, as listed below, are the two volumes to be released on this date. It is expected that Volume 7 will contain “Last Word Vol 4,” and both volumes to contain new Shaman Files. There has been no new updates on any additional extras in these volumes.

Volume 8:

With the annoucement of Volumes 7 and 8, a pattern is begining to develop among the characters featured on the covers. It has become a trend that a male will be on the odd numbered covers and female on the even numbered covers. Volume 8 does have Faust (male), but it also features Eliza on the cover (female). There is also more male characters than female characters, so this trend will most likely not continue through out the entire 27 volumes. However, it is safe to predict that the next two volumes will feature these shamans:

Volume 9: Chocolove (with Mic)
Volume 10: Lyserg (with Morphine, who is female)

With both of these shamans, team The Ren would be completed, and would cover the primary cast. For volumes 11 and 12, Marco and Jeanne appear to be likely candidates. But neither Volumes 9 & 10, nor 11 & 12 have been proven to be correct, but judging on the current pattern, this seems likely.

Editorial: Guide to Importing the Reprint Volumes

Once in a while, one of our news reporters will write an editorial about some aspect of Shaman King. While none of this would be consider “new” news, some aspects of these editorials may not be common knowledge. Our news reporters have been long time fans of the series (each averaging about 4 years a piece), and have studied the series and various other aspects of the series (such as ratings, products, controversies, .etc).  Today a new editorial has been updated to the site titled “Guide to Importing the Reprint Volumes.” You can find this editorial in the Editorial link at the top of every page, or click on this link:

Guide to Importing the Reprint Volumes

The next Editorial will be called “The History of Shaman King, Part 2,” and it is currently being written. Please look forward to this editorial and future editorials along with the latest news right from Japan!

Website, POP, new ad, Badge Campaign, and Page numbers

Mankin Net : Shaman King Kang Zeng Bang official WebsiteEarly this morning, the official website for the Shaman King reprint volumes was launched. The website, called “Mankin Net” as of right now, only contains a countdown clock to the launch of the reprint volumes. Call it a hunch, but they don’t often do countdown clocks, so my guess is that there is going to be some kind of big update on the website (like new SK chapters in Jump SQ) You can find the website here:

http://annex.s-manga.net/shamanking/

Weekly Shonen Jump Ad 2A new scanned ad from Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #13 has also been found. This ad only has a clearer image of both Volumes and contains no new information which hasn’t been reported yet.

Earlier in the week, some images of the Shaman King POP (Point of Purchase, or Pop-out Promotion) have been discovered. These are some stands advertising the new Shaman King volumes. On these stands, as shown in the picture, it appears that there will be a “Badge Campaign.” Taking from experience (as the POP doesn’t give much detail about it), it is to be assumed that with each reprint volume there is a order form for 1 of 30 different badge designs (which I believe are random). No word on pricing or what the designs are, outside of the first design, Amidamaru (shown the the POP).

Finally, as of this printing, several websites are being updated with new info about the 2 reprint volumes. The first pages which have been updated are the following:
http://www.s-book.com/plsql/com2_detail?isbn=9784088742038
http://www.s-book.com/plsql/com2_detail?isbn=9784088742045

It is to be assumed within the next 24-48 hours, the rest of the Shueisha websites will be updated with color images and a preview of each of the volumes. But until then, we have the following preliminary information:

Volume 1 contains 288 pages. Within these 288 pages, we estimate the following:

- Chapters 1-8 (originally from Volume 1, 208 pages)
- Chapter 9-12 (originally from Volume 2, 76 pages)
- Plus 4 extra pages (for the “World Tour”)

Volume 2 contains 236 pages. Within these 236 pages, we estimate the following:

- Chapter 13-17 (originally from Volume 2, 116 pages)
- Chapter 18-23(originally from Volume 3, 114 pages)
- Plus 6 extra pages (for the “World Tour”)

As new information is discovered we will update this news article. Please check back for updates!
